ASPHYX: Limited Anniversary Version Of 'The Rack' Due In November

July 20, 2017

A special and limited anniversary version of "The Rack", the classic debut album from Dutch doom/death metallers ASPHYX, will be made available on November 17 as a double album, containing both the original LP as well as a special bonus version of the entire record covered by friends and peers of the group. More details and formats of this project will be unveiled soon.

ASPHYX is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary in 2017. In addition to the already announced and sold-out anniversary show at the Turock venue in Essen, Germany on Saturday, November 18, ASPHYX will play a second (matinee) show the day after in the same location. These two concerts will feature long ASPHYX sets, special merchandise as well as meet-and-greet opportunities, including former band members like Eric Daniels, Bob Bagchus, Wannes Gubbels, Ronnie Van Der Wey, Roel Sanders and Sander Van Hoof.

ASPHYX's most recent effort, "Incoming Death", was released worldwide last September via the band's longtime label Century Media Records. It was once again mixed and mastered by Dan Swanö at Unisound Studio and entered the official sales charts in various European countries upon release as follows: Germany at No. 30, Switzerland at No. 67 and Belgium (Wallonia) at No. 78.

ASPHYX frontman Martin Van Drunen previously stated about the band's new album: "'Incoming Death', the third ASPHYX album after our resurrection in 2007, contains eleven furious songs in the traditional death/doom style which we are known for so well. Only more unmerciful than ever! Lyrical themes include gore humor, death, doom, war, sci-fi, the varying trustworthy ASPHYX subjects, each fusing perfectly with the metal of the tracks.

"The album title already existed two or three years ago, being a phrase that doesn't really exist but refers to what entrenched soldiers cry out when under severe artillery fire. Thus 'Incoming Death' implies another relentless bombardment of monstrous ASPHYX death/doom metal!"
